Tattle: Oprah has a new way to channel her power
IF ONLY Oprah had more to do. Between the TV show and the magazine and the South African school and the ABC series starting in March and the XM satellite radio channel and producing movies and shows, could there possibly be any hours left for her to accomplish anything else? Turns out, yes. She's getting her own channel. Discovery Communications and Oprah announced yesterday that the Discovery Health network will become OWN - the Oprah Winfrey Network. The cash-free transaction involved Oprah turning over her Web site to Discovery and Discovery naming Oprah chairman of her new channel, currently available in 68 million homes. So said David Zaslav, Discovery Communications chief. "The focus of the channel will be the focus of Oprah's brand, which is to educate and inspire people to live the best life they can," Zaslav said.
Under The Needle: Meet Vince Lombardi, Seahawks fan
Escaping family history can be tough. Ask a Kennedy, a Mob scion, a Shakespearean character: That accident of birth can define (or dog) a person from cradle to grave. One Seattle attorney knows this better than most. That man, a 41-year-old Seahawks fan, will be rooting for the home team Saturday against the Green Bay Packers. Nothing crazy about that. Except this. His name is Vince Lombardi. He is the grandson of a man more associated with Green Bay Packers than anyone else. More than Bart Starr. More than Brett Favre. There is a street in Green Bay named after his Hall of Fame grandfather. A statue of the fedora-capped man stands like a sentinel in front of the stadium, Lambeau Field. For chrissakes, the NFL championship trophy, the league's highest award, is named after Coach Lombardi, almost entirely for what he did as a Packers' coach and general manager.
Westminster talks to set unionist agenda for the future of Scotland
For Labour, the central issue is the difference between Ms Alexander, the Scottish Labour leader, and Mr Browne. Ms Alexander has made the drive for more powers for Holyrood a central part of her leadership. She wants to see the commission discuss more fiscal autonomy for Holyrood. The Scottish Secretary, however, is not quite so keen on this. He is having to tread a careful line between the demands of his Scottish leader for change and the cool response from the Prime Minister, who simply dismissed the question of the commission last week with the phrase: "Its a debate that should happen."AN APPEAL DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLEALEX Salmond launched the National Conversation on Independence last year in an .
Qtrax free music player disappoints
Qtrax had promised a working beta last night, but we knew there was going to be problems after visiting the website. The company warned that downloads weren’t yet available and posted this message on the site. "We're thrilled with the massive response we've received. To ensure the best user experience, we're activating accounts in stages. In the meantime, enjoy all the functionalities of the Qtrax player like importing and playing your music and searching for artist-related content." Disregarding the warning, we downloaded the 9.4 MB install program anyways. After the install, the program scans your hard drive for music and appeared to crash several times during the process. We had to continually close and restart the program to get Songbird working again.
