| Pick ‘n’ roll: Thursday’s best NBA bets
The Pistons are on the verge of their first three-game losing streak of the season, and they'll have to beat the defending NBA champs on the road to avoid that. Detroit is fresh off an 11-game winning streak in which it outscored opponents by an average of 17 points, but it's all gone wrong this week. The Pistons have shot 39.9 percent from the field in the last two games, failing to score more than 86 points in either contest. It's not going to get any easier for the Pistons tonight when they face Spurs star Tim Duncan. He has recorded double-doubles in all 10 regular-season home games against Detroit in his career, leading San Antonio to a 9-1 record. Pick: Spurs Memphis Grizzlies at Sacramento Kings (-4, 203) Three key injuries have contributed to the Kings dropping six of their last eight games overall and four of five at home.
Board will learn lesson if the referendum fails
Their current plan is not very different from the similar plans announced for three previous referendums that failed. The board misrepresented the relative cost of large versus small schools by including land purchase in the small-school option while excluding the cost of land from the cost of the giant high school "because we already own it." When board members realized the community objected to double congestion at the existing high school site, they suddenly "found" money to pay a developer for the Dresser Road location. Their plan ignores a working high school that could easily be used as the first of four proposed small high schools with very little cost. The board continues to ignore the community value, and saving of bus costs, possible by moving to K-8 community schools with two classes of 25 at each grade level.

Joe Garofoli
It flicked Shuster off the bottom of its shoe before sundown Friday, saying he "has been suspended from appearing on all NBC News broadcasts, other than to make his apology (Friday). He has also extended an apology to the Clinton family. NBC News takes these matters seriously, and offers our sincere regrets to the Clintons for the remarks." But is that enough? Can this debate be saved? Ellen "Emily's List" Malcolm is pissed. (Can we say that?) Emily -- a huge Clinton fan -- wrote a letter to NBC news czar Phil Griffin Friday saying "the misogynistic pattern in the reporting by your network must come to an end. I know I speak for millions across this country when I demand that you take immediate steps and publicly tell us what you will do to eliminate this sexist and demeaning culture that has become so pervasive in your network." Ouch.
