East Timor's Ramos-Horta wounded
East Timor television reported that Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao's home also came under fire, but that no one was hurt. Ramos-Horta was being operated on at an Australian army hospital in the capital, presidential adviser Agusto Zunior told The Associated Press. It was unclear whether his injury was life-threatening. One of Ramos-Horta's guards was killed in the attack, army spokesman Maj. Domingos da Camara said. Two cars passed Ramos-Horta's house on the outskirts of the capital, Dili, at around 7 a.m. local time and began shooting, da Camara said. A rebel soldier wanted on murder charges for a flare-up of violence in 2006 was killed in a shootout with guards, he said. Alfredo Reinado was due to go on trial in absentia for his alleged role in several deadly shootings between the rebel army troops and police units in April and May of 2006.

TAMPA — The defense, already thin, lost two of its best and most experienced players this week. The offense has become predictable and one-dimensional. One of the nation's top defensive players awaits. The opponent is high-quality and the site has been particularly unfriendly. Other than that, everything looks great for the University of Louisville football team (5-6, 2-3) as it takes on South Florida (7-3, 2-3) Saturday night in its bid to pull an upset and enhance its prospects for a 10th straight bowl berth. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. (ESPNU) in Raymond James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Bucs of the NFL. UofL is coming off its best all-around performance of the season, rallying from a 31-14 deficit to tie the score, then losing at West Virginia 38-31 on Nov. 9. But since then, the Cards — who traveled with only 25 healthy defensive players — have lost two more starters.
Will 'Amnesty' Sink McCain?
The perennial controversy over what to call McCain's amnesty is silly. Every program in the world that has allowed illegal immigrants to stay has been called an "amnesty." McCain himself called it "amnesty" as recently as May 2003, when he told the Tucson Citizen "I think we can set up a program where amnesty is extended to a certain number of people who are eligible … Amnesty has to be an important part ..." But once the focus-group results were in, "amnesty" became a four-letter word. ...[snip] Real Straight Talk would be to say "Sure, it's an amnesty, but we don't really have any choice" ... P.S.: The McCain, post-focus-group argument is that it can't be "amnesty" if it has some requirements--e.g., to pay a fine, learn English, etc. But it turns out that Ronald Reagan's 1986 "comprehensive" reform, which he and everyone else called an "amnesty," had requirements too, including payment of fees.

CSC’s “Doll’s House”: Don’t Toy with Nora!
A Doll's House is the story of Nora Helmer and her picture perfect marriage to Torvald, their two child and a nanny family, and their friends, a Dr. Rank and Kristine Linde. Dr. Rank, a lifelong friend of Torvald's visits daily, and suffers from a disease that will kill eventually kill him, but he is a happy man, thankful to be alive and to see Nora every day. Kristine, a childhood friend of Nora's is recently returned to town after losing a husband, and with two sons taking care of themselves. The nanny, who had a child herself but gave her up for adoption to pursue the "opportunities" of nannydom, was nanny to Nora and is so now to Nora's little ones. Clearly, we have women and men here representing different things: women are happily married mothers, widows free only because their children have gone, and unwed mothers given the "opportunity" to give up their children and be servants.
